Gosh, I was under the impression that people in HK and The Mainland turned out to watch 'Ip Man', starring Donnie Yen, in droves. Now, add Sammo to the mix onscreen...

This is 'Ip Man 2' starring Donnie Yen. NOT 'That other guy and Ip Man' starring Andy Lau. Too bad Fan Siu Wong is so far out of the buzz and Andy is the buzz.

I dont think so. partially yes, but the draw was a mix of nationalistic themes(mainland) as well as good word of mouth and fight scenes. Thats what I think atleast. Donnie isnt that much of a box office draw. Neither SPL nor Flashpoint made that much money. Not really sure why Ip Man did so well. Personally, I like Andy. I think he is an overrated but good actor but there is no doubt that he rakes in the money at the BO. This is a marketing move partly. With Andy in the movie, Ip Man 2 will rake in much more at the BO. Point is, alot of people will watch Ip Man 2 that didnt watch Ip Man 1 because of Andy. He has SOOO many fans in China and HK and East Asia. He IS a box office draw--- much more so than Donnie and Sammo. That is just a fact.

Don't want to be off topic here but where in all that does Donnie rank, i have to say i didnot no who Donnie yen was untill i watched once upon a time in china2  (well he was just to cute :cloud9) so i look up his name after i saw the movie and that is when i started buying his movies, that was just last year. i knew who jet li, Andy Lau, sammo even takeshi were but not donnie. To me Donnie is a great actor. my question really is where does donnie falls as in gross in HK he does alot of movies a year.


I like Andy but i think they are doing this for a better  box office( wow i wonder how Donnie is feeling) basically they are saying you did well in IP man 1 but we want excellent in IP man 2, it's like donnie you,re  good but Andy will make it better.
