So you keep reading all over the site about the DY NETWORK or DYN. You see the gallery pics stamped with it, you see the Main page of the site inform you that DY.us is a member. But nothing really saying what it is exactly, though you may have an idea.
It's now in the FAQ. And for you lazy people, here it is as well:
May we present to you, DY.us History 101. Sit down, it'll only hurt for a bit..unless you're a slow reader. DY.us launched on 14 Aug 2004. Previous to that the wily seekers of DY.net discovered that donnieyen.us was coming soon to a browser near you. It generated some excitement that there was a soon to be site, devoted to Donnie, in the states. The coming soon page stated that the webmaster would like for DY.us to pair up with the Chinese Fan Club as an English resource for English speaking fans.
Fast Forward to the Grand Launch! The site gets a warm welcome by the community of fans, and bob's your uncle, DY.us gets asked to be apart of the Family. Obviously the answer was yes, and DY.us became the US branch of the DYN Fan Group
So, you're thinking, DYN is...? Petulant reader! We're getitng to it. The Donnie Yen Network [DYN] Fan Group, or sometimes referred to as the Family, a group of fan sites that came together to distribute news and information about Donnie's latest projects to his fans around the globe. The other sites are Donnie's Chinese Fan Club, www.donnieyen.net and www.donnieyen.org [Big5, Taiwan Branch] as well as the Japanese branch, www.donnieyen.info US branch, [DY.us] and the newly added Korean Branch, http://cafe.naver.com/donniefanpy.cafe Of course, it's not a fan site, but the Official Site is also considered part of the DYN, because well, it's Donnie's Official Site.
So you might be thinking...big whup. But here are some highlights of how this network benefits you, the fan:
Japan Premiere's Nov 04 article on SPL: It hit newsstands in Japan on 21 Sept. Raphy, the owner and operator of DY.info, picked it up, scanned the article and then translated it from Japanese to English. It was then handed over to the family where DY.us polished up the english version and where 77 and greentea [web goddesses of DY.net and DY.org respectively] translated it for the Chinese speaking fans. The article is now available at each site in their retrospective Interview sections.
Sina Chat on 19 Mar: On 19 Mar 05, Donnie was invited to hold a chat with Sina. He discussed Seven Swords, his approach to fleshing out roles, Bruce Lee and much more. The transcript was 4 pages long. 77 of .net translated it in parts to English, where .us refined the text and raphy of .info translated it in to Japanese. The chat is now available in each site's retrospective Interview sections
SPL's 1st trailer: Exclusive to the DYN, SPL's first trailer was hosted on each site so that fans had easy access to it [servers hosted in China and stateside]. Available at first in flash format, it was later converted to .rm to help those that couldn't get the flash to load.
News Source: Donnie's been doing a lot of work in Hong Kong, shooting films around China, so a lot of news for his work is reported by Chinese news. Through this grouping, fans aren't left in the dark if they're linguistically challenged. Which is the big reason for the group's existance. Fan site wouldn't be a fan site without the help and labors of love from the fans. [cheekiness]Who feels warm n fuzzy now, who? [/cheekiness]
News/pics via Donnie: Yes you read that right. And yes, this was purposely listed last. Donnie is gracious enough to send in messages/Xclusive content on occasion to the DYN. If you weren't totally convinced when you read interviews where he expresses his thanks for the support he gets, perhaps look at his participation as him thanking his fans for all their support in the many ways it manifests. He doesn't have to, but he takes a moment every now and then, to send word of upcoming events.
-cue 'we are family' music-
And there you have it.

While many may equate DY.us=Chelle, that's not the case in totality. Sure, I own the site, do the web geekery and handle its maintainence, but the Staff pafe has Staffies..meaning plural. I had help getting this community off the ground.
If some of you have been fans for a number of years, you may be all too aware that there weren't many places for fans to congregate. There were pages put up, but not many fan sites in English where the fan could keep up with what was going on with Donnie and his work AND find other Donnie fans to talk with. You may have even stumbled across .net on occasion. Add that in with the official site not updating all that much and it was hard to keep up with new things. I actually found NB via another message board and discovered that she too liked Donnie and some of his work. Through her I was introduced to raphy, and it snowballed from there, meeting other people that liked Donnie and his work. Because there wasn't a place for fans like us to congregate in terms of community, I tossed out the idea of someone building a fan site- since they are usually bubbling with news from fans all over posting up links and have a place for others to hang and chit chat at. Then I took my idea seriously and began building it. Voila, the site you're reading now.
I'm fortunate that I was able to find the friends that I have that helped me give the site the push it got so early on. I hope this place can boast of many years giving you a great place to nurture your fandom. Huzzuh for a place us native English speakers can call home, no?
